Born to Royalty BBC Film

OK, I am not the only one who is unreasonably excited about the impending birth of William and Catherine's royal baby, am I? Then I am also not the only one who will be seeing (OK, perhaps ordering) the new BBC film Born to Royalty on how to raise a British Royal Baby.

Narrated by Downton Abbey's Hugh Bonneville, it opens in select theatres on July 19th and is released on DVD August 6th it is timed to coincide with the blessed event that the British tabloids have been waiting so patiently for.

And while we wait, here is a little tidbit for you. The new royal baby will not have to have a surname, as HRH Prince or Princess and about 4 or more given names is all that is required. However, both William and Harry have taken Wales as their surname so the new royal baby will likely have the surname of either Mountbatten-Windsor, Wales or Cambridge. I am betting on the latter.

Bets for baby names have Charlotte, Alexandra, Elizabeth, Diana, George, James, Phillip and Arthur in the running. Please leave a comment below with your baby name suggestions. I like Victoria for a girl personally, although Sophia or Caroline would be nice! How about Frederick or Ernest for a boy?

So if you, like me, got up early to watch the wedding of William and Catherine (heck, I watched the Chuck and Diana nuptials live) you will likely be interested in this Royal Baby film. The trailer can be viewed here and the link to purchase the DVD on Amazon is here.

And don't forget the last of the "Secrets of" series on PBS at 8pm tonight, Secrets of Chatsworth.

    1. Hi Bridget. I like your choices for boy names. I think Spencer should be a middle name. They seem to be such a lovely family.
I admit I was watching them come out of the hospital live. My teen son thinks I am nuts. Glad you don't!

      Cheers!

  2. I got up very early in the morning and watched Princess Kate and Prince William's wedding live on TV. I'm also very excited about their baby! If it's a girl I think they may name her Diana.

I can't wait to see Born to Royalty. I'm happy that it's narrated by Hugh Bonneville.

    1. I would love to see Born to Royalty too. Especially now that we have a new little prince! Hugh B has a lovely mellifluous voice for it.
My son read on Twitter "If the new prince sees his shadow, that means there are 6 more weeks of Downton Abbey"!

  3. Hello jenny,
I find that Charlotte is a very beautiful first name for a girl.I believe that prince William will want to add the first name of her mother too.
And I think as you, that Frederick would be original for a boy.
Me too, in France, I watched both weddings-live.

(I am sorry I cannot read the extracts of " secrets to Chatsworth ", it is impossible in France: what a damage!)

    1. Hi Muriel. I think the name Frederick has a good chance. He has the royal wave already- his little hand was moving around!
Sorry you couldn't watch Secrets to Chatsworth. We have trouble seeing American things online here in Canada too. We get their television stations however. Maybe someone will post it to YouTube, but it is not there yet!

  4. I definitely am all for Charlotte or Caroline for a girl and George or Arthur for a boy. Charlotte would be very nice and would be a nod to William's father Charles, and Caroline is also an original choice and would honor Kate's mother (Carole) as well as Charles. I like George because it is a good solid name and hasn't been used very much lately, and Arthur would be great because then there would be a King Arthur once again :)

    1. Hi Kathryn. I love the idea of another King Arthur. They would have to get another puppy and name him Merlin or Lancelot! :)

  5. Ooh I like the idea of 'Spencer' as a tribute to Diana!
I have no clue about boy names, but if it's a girl I think Alexandra Elizabeth Victoria. :)

    1. Hi Ruth. Even though the baby is male, they could use Spencer as a middle name to honour Diana. That would be great!

  6. As today they announced that the Duchess of Cambridge has gone into labour, I'm ready to register my predictions for the name of the baby: I'm going to say Caroline or Alexandra if it's a girl (which I think it is, based on how Kate has carried the pregnancy), and James or George if it's a boy.
Best of British Luck, Kate! ('cause it's hard enough to give birth without knowing there's a media circus going on outside the hospital ... no pressure!)

    1. Hello Sis! I won the baby pool my friends set up. I chose a boy on the 22nd of July. No one else had that combo. I chose James Phillip as a name so we will have to wait and see but I think they will chose a dark horse name. Maybe Edmund? Albert? Prince Eddie or Bertie? Stay posted. I think they are a sweet family no matter what the name of the prince.

    2. Well, I think that I should win a prize, too! I chose George for the first name and Alexander (Alexandra) as well. Missed out on the Louis. Still, two out of three isn't bad! And a nice nod to Diana with Kate wearing the blue polka dot dress for the first post-childbirth photo-op (although Kate's was blue and Di's was green).

I know you will agree that there cannot be too many period dramas.:)

    LRK, or Lark

PS - I actually did see Charles & Diana's wedding - I feel old! (I'm born in 1971, so I wasn't exactly ancient - but I don't know, when children of the people you saw get married, get married and have children... well... :))
