Is he a fraud or not? You re right Jenny, Downton Abbey isn't high art and I admit that sometimes the story lines are silly and predictable but I still thoroughly enjoy it!

(Leeds) xKate Gormanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02981103578975768299noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8833418224175267236.post-33213610713655951622012-02-06T09:06:14.269-05:002012-02-06T09:06:14.269-05:00Hi Juanita, you are obviously frustrated with DA b...Hi Juanita, you are obviously frustrated with DA but I am still having fun with it. Is it high art? Absolutely not! But I think the soap opera quality it has takes me back to my high school days watching "The Young and the Restless!" Except with much better acting and locations and costumes to die for!

I'll be glued to the screen next week for the two hour finale and then the week after for the Christmas special. I just can't help myself. If you need some truly well written Julian Fellowes, you may have to watch Gosford Park again. THAT is high art! Cheers!Jenny Allworthyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08518779478842699970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8833418224175267236.post-68906136958818989822012-02-06T02:08:46.719-05:002012-02-06T02:08:46.719-05:00Can this show get any more turgid? Why didn't Cora and Violet simply tell Isobel that Downton Abbey would resume being a private home, without all of this passive aggressive manipulations? Matthew's little problem is about to be miraculous cured . . . in such a ridiculous short space of time. Carson is becoming increasingly irritating and reactionary. And why end the Patrick/Peter Crawley/Gordon mystery so soon? Fellowes could have stretched it out in a few episodes. Why was Vera Bates so determined to ruin Bates' chances for a new life? Why did she hate him so much? I guess we'll never know, now that she's dead. Mary and Matthew's relationship has become cliched romance novel, with Sir Richard as some one-dimensional mustache-twirling villain. And Fellowes still refuse to give Lavinia some kind of character, in his never-ending effort to compare her unfavorably to Mary.

My God, this series has hit the skids! Is the U.S. media still trying to pretend that it's the best thing on television?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
