And now for something completely different...
The other Period Drama which has been really overlooked is True Grit. Although nominated for 10 Oscars, I think it hasn't gotten nearly the attention that was anticipated when it was released. I quite enjoyed this one, although it wasn't in the same league as The King's Speech. I truly enjoyed the performance of the young star Hailee Steinfeld. She reminded me somewhat of Megan Follows in Anne of Green Gables. Quite a joy to watch. Although Jeff Bridges has been mocked a little for his rather difficult to understand diction in this film as Rooster Cogburn, he was obviously having a lot of fun and so did I watching him!

It's been years since I watched a western and this one was definitely worth seeing. Perhaps a rental as opposed to one you might want to own. The King's Speech, however, will be in my library as soon as it's available.

ReplyDeleteI thought of calling you last night when Colin Firth won for Best Actor, and made his lovely speech about the possibility of the joy he was feeling moving down to his legs and breaking out into spontaneous dancing! Wonder if it would have given Hugh Grant a run for his money (kept picturing Hugh's hip swaggling "Jump" dance number in "Love Actually"!). I would have given anything to see such dancing ... it would have livened up an otherwise fairly dull Oscar night! Although "The King's Speech" didn't completely clean up at the Academy Awards, four Oscars is a very respectable showing. Well done, all! (And I'm sure that the partying went on well into the wee hours ...).

Yes I thought you would be up until the end as was I. Although the awards were predictable, I thought the show was kind of cute. The Inception intro was funny and I think Anne Hathaway is refreshingly goofy. I have an appreciation for the goofy in this world, as you well know. And Rusell Brand and Helen Mirren were hysterical! I hope this isn't the peak of Colin Firth's career. Hugh Grant must be really pissed off right now!
Can't wait for the fashion police tonight. I know they'll hate Helena's dress but I loved it.
